Just got back, VERY good film, second in line for me behind Empire. Funny, action-packed and emotional too. 100% suggest seeing this.

I wouldn't doubt that it was spectacular, but up there with Empire Strikes Back?

I guess I need to check it out now. Let' just hope it was as good as Dunkirk.

Okay, yeah, this was a great film.

My only real criticism is how it jumped between stories every 3 or 4 minutes, rather than letting them play out with more time.

But, it had many high points.
1. Rey as a character isnt an obvious Mary Sue anymore.

2. Finn still remains the best character in the films. Kinda wish that he was the Jedi over Rey, tbh.

3. It felt like there were actual stakes in the story. While, Episode 7 did have high stakes, most of that film felt like the heroes weren't going towards conflict and more the conflict goes to them.

4. The balls the writers and directors had to go with the more surprising parts of the story.

However. I got a few problems with it.

1. Kylo still doesn' feel like a tug of war rope between light and dark. He's still this edgy kid who thrives less on Sith anger and more on angst that akin to a high school student.

2. Far too much comedy in the first half. Comedy is a constant in Star Wars, but there were too many joke moments in the first half.

3. It feels a lot like Dunkirk. Hero Faction is trapped on the retreat, in constant fear of the enemy someday destroying them. Three separate sub plots that all interconnect at the end, only difference being Dunkirk did it the right way by have the times between each story separate (something Star Wars can' do.)

9/10 Film
Not a masterpiece like Empire, but it' a close third. The
