Daniel Bryan reportedly has plenty of time left on his WWE contract
Speculation about Daniel Bryan's future reached fever pitch last week after his argument with The Miz on Talking Smack spawned ideas that the former King of the Independents was getting involved in a comeback angle.
The star of WrestleMania 30 had to walk away from the ring after WWE doctors refused to medically clear him due to multiple head traumas.
It's thought the long list of concussions the 35-year-old suffered throughout his career were the main causes, but still, it felt like the Leader of the Yes Movement was stolen from the fans too soon.
One of The Miz's main criticisms of Bryan was the fact that, if he loved wrestling so much, why not go back to the independents and wrestle in bingo halls?
Bryan would, of course, have to wait for his WWE contract to wind down before entertaining such ideas, and new reports suggest that could be complicated.
According to NODQ.com, Bryan's contract has some way to go and the WWE do not intend for him to thrive elsewhere.
"With Daniel Bryan's return to WWE television, his contract with the company is no longer frozen. We have been told that his current contract with the company runs all the way into 2018.
"If Bryan was to return to the indies, it would be a long time from now. We have been informed previously WWE isn't wiling to release him and have him show up on programming elsewhere."
Fans would absolutely love to see Bryan wrestle again and whatever organisation he made his return in would surely do big business. However, given his financial security with the WWE and a nice, weekly job, Bryan would be wise to play it safe, especially with his health on the line if he didn't.
A WWE doctor will never clear Bryan and the angle with The Miz - although more intense than originally intended - was meant to be nothing more than an entertaining argument. Bryan isn't on course for a return to the ring of any kind.
