Mr Excitement Presents "Aftermath: Is Newsome a Blessing or a Curse for Pandora"

There came a point after the main event where you could hear a pin drop.

..........And that’s not meant to be interpreted in a negative way. This isn't the kind of silence that comes after a bombed joke or when DOC makes his entrance. This was a silence born of the genuine shock and surprise that the fans felt when the..well, surprising events unfolded after them.

..........The right kind of silence.

..........Not that the crowd needed to make any noise that night, because the sounds of this Pandora using Jade Dynamite to destroy the arena more than made up for it. It’s hard to say whether or not it was for the best having the first-ever women’s pay per view main event end in such a way, but to just say that it was memorable wouldn't be doing the moment justice.


..........All eyes were already on the match–millions had tuned in to see if Dynamite and Page would deliver in such a coveted position. So it should be safe to say that millions will tune in to see what this Pandora is all about (and of course also to see if we’ll ever get any resolution to this Dynamite/Page rivalry, because that is what everyone paid all that money to see, after all). She’s an attraction all on her own. Few women, if any at all, can compare to her size and considering her background, one of Top Newsome’s puppets, she has already has an established character, and an intriguing one at that.

..........Though one has to wonder if being associated with Newsome is something worth hanging your hat on nowadays. Throughout the season, Newsome has had plenty of highs (relatively speaking, of course, but it isn’t so hard to imagine that somebody in UnMatched and Intensity’s revolving door of wrestlers wished they could swap careers with Newsome), but for better or worse he’s developed a reputation for coming up just a little short in matches that really matter.

.......... You don’t even have to dig up the UnTensity (Has a ring to it, doesn’t it? No? Damn) history books to find the damning evidence that makes that statement correct. Just pull up his land handful of matches. Newsome drops the Television Championship to Mugen. But you know what? That’s not even the bad part. If I found myself standing across the ring from some giant purple guy, I’d be a little taken aback to. The bad part about Newsome losing the title, is that he never did anything to make up for it.


..........Newsome had given a number one contender’s match against one of Cole Savage’s friends in Marley Kassell, and let me remind you that Kassell only wrestlers once a fortnight, and Newsome couldn’t get the job done. Why Kassell was given that shot in the first place can be a subject for another article, but we’re focusing on how Newsome couldn’t get the job done. Now because of the contract hullabaloo surround Savage’s Friends, Savage had to find someone to take that title match against Zack Starr. For reasons known only to Savage, that man ended up being Newsome and...

.......... Before we get to the result of the match, let’s just remember that Starr was in Newsome’s position: a champion going into a title match not knowing who his opponent was. Starr even had the luxury of a short list that Savage could have picked, making the surprise arguably even bigger when Savage’s choice was way out of left field. Still, Starr did what a champion’s supposed to do and that’s find a way to get by despite odds being stacked against you. Once again Newsome dropped the ball and let the biggest prize on Intensity slip through his fingers.

.......... And none of this is a knock against Newsome. He’s certainly one of the most talented wrestlers on the roster, and it would have actually felt right to see him holding the Global Championship. However, one of the best parts of wrestling matches is the mystery surrounding who will win it, and Newsome’s inability to win may make it hard to sit through his battles. It also leads to watching Pandora with a bit of skepticism. The question hanging around her isn’t “just how good can she be?” but “just how good can she be if she’s associated with Tops Newsome?”


..........But if we’re going to take such a guilty by association kind of stance, could all the blame for Newsome’s loss to Starr be placed on Newsome himself? If there’s an aura of doubt surrounding Pandora’s capabilities because of her relationship to Newsome, perhaps it could also be argued that he would have beaten Starr for the Global Championship had his position in that match had not been decided by Cole Savage.

..........Savage, his clients and his friends have been all over the place this season, but now that it’s over can we really sit back and think about how well they’ve actually done. Leo Cruz has won championships, but struggled to hold on to them, and his rival Shinnin is rising high after a big victory against Kurasuke. Omega Lee came in with a bang and is lurking in the shadows while being dangerously close to the Global Championship (maybe Savage wanted Newsome to win the title to make Lee’s cash-in easier? Conspiracy!). Megan Cooper had strong showings, especially in the Elimination Chamber for Jade “Divine’s” Championship, but for all her talk, Cooper wasn’t actually the one to rid of Cassondra LaFave. Then there’s Nick Blake, a story almost too sad to retell. Luckily his victory at Exodus could be the start of something new, but it’ll be a long climb to get back to where he once was.

..........There’s a lot of questions that will have to be answered at the start of Season Four and a lot of wrestlers worth keeping an eye on. Who else will join the fray once the doors of UnTensity open up again? Will the Puppet become too big and successful to be controlled by the Puppet Master?
