...............There was nothing but silence.
...............No, allow me to correct that.
...............There was no sound but the blood-curdling screams of Travis King.
...............No, one last correction.
...............There was no sound but the screams--and the disturbingly childlike, jovial nature of a one Schmidty and his cronies.
...............Calling him childlike is key. It’s not an “insult” I’m throwing around for the sake of being controversial. If you know anything about Schmidty--the slightest thing--watched him on tv, heard his voice, seen a picture of him, then you’d know without a doubt that calling him childlike is apropos as well as the nicest way of putting it.
...............His constant need to be in control, to have validation, to be told that he’s good--that’s childlike. And that’s sad. You think he married Laura Sampson because of love or any kind of physical attraction? It was a marriage of convenience. Now I can’t really say with any kind of certainty what kind of person Laura was before she met Schmidty, but I’ve come dangerously close to calling what happened after they met brainwashing.
...............At least before that fateful day where they looked into each other’s eyes, Laura was at least putting on the appearance of running a good show. Now, the toxin that plagued Fusion since Schmidty came in contact with it is slowly spreading to Ferocity--never more evident than in the appreciation battle royale taking place at Ascendance. What are those Vixens appreciating, really? Not being married to Schmidty? Not being fired on a whim? Not being decimated like Travis King was?
...............Most likely all of the above.
...............Most likely they all saw what happened on Fusion, and a voice has permeated their thoughts making them question how long until such lawlessness finds its way to Ferocity.
...............One of the most frightening things to consider is that Schmidty is as much a product of that Fusion environment as much as Fusion has been morphed so that men like him could thrive.
...............Riddle me this: who has stepped up to stop Schmidty? Xander Slate? He had his own motives--proud to fight over the last dry bed in the sinking ship instead of trying to plug the leaks. Anyone who even had the passing thought of putting Schmidty in his place put those thoughts to bed in a flash.
...............Travis King is why.
...............Schmidty’s rise to power didn’t come out of the blue, and he has become such a tyrant now that it’s too late to undo the damage; the risks of taking that power away far outweigh the reward.
...............But that’s a reward worth fighting for, because Travis King won’t be the last, especially if those with an ounce of compassion in their hearts continue to sit on the sidelines.
...............The man walking around with the World Championship did nothing to earn it. Schmidty snuffed out a future star--actions brought about by a fear of his own star losing its luster. The most baffling thing is that Schmidty doesn’t even have to act the way he has been. He does it because he can. He continued to do it because no one has stopped him.
...............The people are crying out for a hero.
...............But the heroes are outnumbered by the monsters.
